In accordance with the recommendations made by UN General Secretary in the Study on Violence against Children and objectives of the CE programme Building a Europe for and with Children, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of Serbia and the Council for Child Rights of the Government of Serbia, with the support of Save the Children Norway and UNICEF, are organizing on 18 and 19 October a Conference on Protection of Children from all forms of Violence in South-East Europe.


Conference is organised within Chairmanship of Serbia to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and at the moment when CE member countries are facing ratification of Convention on protection of Children form sexual abuse and exploitation, recently adopted by the Committee of Ministers. It also comes at the time when Serbia as well as other SEE countries aredeveloping their National Strategy on protection of children form violence.


Aim of the Conference is to share regional experiences in protection of children from all forms of violence.

Conference will bring together around 100 participants among which delegates form Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania.

The sharing of experiences and perspectives on child protection policies and practices among SEE countries could contribute to development of more efficient mechanisms for implementation of the right of each child to CHILDHOOD WITHOUT VIOLENCE.


Opening adress: Ljilja Lucic, State Secretary for Social Policy and Vice-President of the Council for Child Rights, Lioubov Samokhina, Program coordinator for CE Program Building a Europe for and with children, Andrea Zeravcic, programe manager for Save the Children Norway, Juditha Reinberg, Area Representative UNICEF and Tim Bainbridge, regional director for SEE programme Save the Children UK.

At the concluding remarks on the second day participants are going to be adressed by Rasim Ljajic, Minister for Labour and Social Policy and Maud de Boer Buquicchio, Deputy General Secretary of the Coucil of Europe. 


Conference is going to take place in the City Hall, on 18 and 19 October 2007, from 09am-04PM
